Sports is the best way to get your heart broke, because there's always another game, another season, and you, able to transfer your loyalties. I will have to tell you about my formula for how to root for a college football game when you have absolutely no skin in the game: one rule: if it's Kansas vs. Kansas State, watch golf.

This is beautiful. I grew up in PDX, then moved away for a couple of years. In early 2001, I returned to a place I didn't recognize, and felt like a stranger. Like you, I found a place to land with fellow sports fans. In my case it was with the (then A-League) Timbers. None of the players had the stature of Dame, but to us, they were one of us.

Loving a tram is like loving an unreliable partner. Sometimes they send you over the moon, sometimes they crush you. We grieve the trades the way we do breakups- 'cause in a way that's kinda what they are. That uncertainty + tribal identity are what keep us coming back.

We're a long way from the glory days of Drexler, Porter, etc. and I'm a long way from PDX, but those bonds don't slip easy. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to see Dame in a Bucks uniform, but Rip City > Cream City.

This is just utterly beautiful--that rare thing--a reflection on fandom that actually ends up being about...life?

Such a heart-wrenching lay simple tune. Thx for the excuse to play it 😎
